‘Me Time’- A Conscious Effort To De-Stress

by Nikimandi_Admin

It is usually said that more emphasis should be laid on what kids can do instead of what they can’t do. I had a discussion with someone recently (identity withheld) on this topic and gradually, I began to see a clearer picture. For instance, during the course of our lengthy confab, she opined that someone could be autistic and still be a chatterbox, a genius or be completely socially inept and awkward.

So how do we know for sure without proper diagnosis?

If you want to find out more, please stay glued as we interview a certified behavior instructor with over 7 years of practice.

Welcome to Nikimandi blog and thanks for giving your consent for this feature.

1.    Please introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Iyere John Moses.

2.   Okay, you’re welcome once again Moses. So in your opinion, what are some of the major causes of disorders like autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, etc.?

The causes are still not certain as experts are yet to give a definite factor. However, three factors which have still not been scientifically proven include environmental, genetic and lifestyle.

3.   Are there solutions that you can proffer to help people with these conditions?

Yes, I actually feel that despite the fact that these are life-long disorders, we should still learn to never say never but try to avoid stigmatization. As at today, there are three treatment approaches which are Therapeutic Services, Dietary Intervention andsupplement Support. So far, they have been effective to a reasonable extent in solving this ravaging menace.

4.   Oh this is great! We are really thrilled and appreciate the efficacy of these treatment approaches. Please what piece of advice do you have for those faced with such challenges?

Seek early evaluation, assessment and intervention because timely diagnosis is vital.

5.   Alright. How do you think parents and teachers can come together to help these kids make good progress?

Collaboration is key, as all parties involved must endeavor to play their roles efficiently. Discrimination is still rampant and this has made most parents resort to kids with certain disorders locked up in their homes. Schools should not shut their doors on these children. Instead, they should create Special Education Needs department and train teachers to help these kids in achieving better results.

6.   From your experience, are there specific related issues that you will like to enlighten us on?

Well, maybe more light should be thrown on disorders like Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, Childhood Disintegration Disorder and Mental Retardation because they all have their unique characteristics, hence unique approach and strategies. We should also try to do away with about autism. One of which is that it arises as a result of bad parenting.

Some will even say that it is spiritual, which is a complete hoax because repeated studies have reviewed autism as an inorganic disorder which affects children within the first 24 to 30 months of their lives. Basically, it attacks these areas of development; speech, behavior and social interaction skills.

7.   How best can we sensitize ignorant people in order to prevent them from adding salt to injury?

I would suggest greater advocacy through social media outlets to help debunk most of the myths going round about these conditions. Government and lawmakers should also play a major role to help.

I want to encourage all Autism and developmental disorders parents out there that there is hope as we are surely winning this fierce battle staring us in the face. We must not lose faith yet because help is always there when you seek it.

Okay, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your suggestions and experience with us.

Thank you too and feel free to always reach out whenever you want.

Sure! Regards.

One thing I know is that the world is a bit better with these kids in it. Choose to show them love and understanding every single time, that way I believe that life will be more worthwhile. To parents who are concerned that once diagnosed, their kids will carry this label for the rest of their lives, now you can be strong and be assured that it’s not a life sentence. There is always a ray of light at the end of the tunnel and Almighty God of course who brings hope of a better tomorrow.

I hope you have enjoyed this feature, and all these are evidence which just shows to reason that the issue of evil spirit possession in cases like this is actually a hoax after all. Please share your views in the comment section below.

XOXO

Yours Truly.
