Have you ever looked at your house and felt like a tornado just happened?
Ok, comparing this to a tornado may actually be overrated but I know it has kinda felt that way for me on several occasions, if I must say so myself.
Raising kids is one sure way to have a tornado related experience. If you’re like me and disorganization affects your mental health and daily equilibrium, then this post is for you.
However, if you’re one of those who can’t be bothered, but would rather turn off the lights and sip a cup of coffee, well… you may still need to read this post either way, because I would be happy if you did.
Lol !
Ok, here are some quick tips to use inorder to keep your home as organized as possible despite having kids;
- You may have read before that the less stuff you have, the easier it will be to keep your home neat and organized. It’s a life changing tip, especially for mums with busy lives.
- In addition to drawers and wardrobes, have baskets or small cartons in every room. This makes it easier to just put some odds and ends, like toys, together inside them.
- Do a last minute home organization every night, just before bedtime. I choose the period after prayers for obvious reasons, it’s the most convenient. You may even get a kid or two to help out during this time. Make it look like a game or something. Trust me, kids love fun and so do you, I’m sure.
So make it fun.
- Make your bed. Let this be the second major thing you do every morning, after prayers which should come first on your list. This improves productivity a lot for me, especially because I find it hard to lay back down afterwards. I mean, who wants to scatter a well made bed and have the cycle repeat itself all over again? Not I, and if I’m right, definitely not you too. So I just move on to the next chore, except on days that I absolutely need to have a lie in.
I know mamas can relate.
- Clean the house in batches, as opposed to cleaning the whole house daily. You can have a routine that has you spacing out all the extras.
And by extras, I mean chores like window washing, dusting ceiling fans, wiping down appliances, and washing beddings. Surely, you must be one super mum to be able to achieve these daily.
- At the end of the day, even though a tidy and organized home won’t make all our dreams come true, it will certainly help to overcome the mum funk phase from taking over your life. This may be the jumpstart you need. Remember, every mum deserves to be happy and I hope that you remember to be just that.
HAPPY !
Also, contrary to what some people choose to believe, teaching kids to be organized, prim and proper, isn’t some form of child abuse. It would do the world more good than harm if they imbibe these skills from a tender age.
I know that having an organized home gets exponentially more difficult with kids.
I also understand the struggles and I know we can’t win them all.
But I also know, as a matter of fact, that we can make it work out eventually, even if it means taking baby steps for starters.
I promise you won’t regret it.
XOXO,
Yours Truly
