Hey Lovelies,
Ok, so I kvell whenever I’m asked this question,
‘What do you do?’
Because for me, it’s not such a cut and dried question. I’m not a full-on work from home mum because I also have my 9 to 5 as an educator, which usually involves a full time schedule. So I’ve always felt like I was exaggerating when I say that I work from home too. That’s because when I tell someone I’m a blogger, they either give me the ‘You’re insane’ kind of look or the ‘Yeah right’ look.
The truth is, my career journey will be incomplete if I don’t mention my blog because it balances out my 9 to 5 for me.
Now, this post is not all about telling you some of the things I do for a living, it’s about how I strike a balance, especially for my fellow mums who also have a 9 to 5 and other side hustles they love and don’t want to give up. So, if you want the updated deets, be sure to keep on reading and share yours too eventually. *wink wink*
There’s no denying the fact that working mums are masters at multitasking.
We are!
From juggling mails and calls to making dinner, studying and writing reports… you name it. There’s also the spending countless hours at work and the everyday ups and downs.
It just feels like an endless cycle sometimes, doesn’t it? You wake up at the crack of dawn, rush through your morning routine. You commute to work and carry out the rest of your activities for the day.
Sometimes you wonder at the cycle but I have found a way to attain a semblance of work-life balance.
- Take turns with your spouse to do drop offs and pick-ups.
- Be efficient at your place of work so that little or none of the work follows you back home on most or all occasions, especially if you have kids all under the age of ten.
- Cook meals that can sit for a long period of time. Make pots of soups and stews that can last for a while, so that major cooking for the week is almost taken care of. This tip may not come in handy if you find cooking quite therapeutic like I do. I will share more cooking recipes on my channel soon.

- Sneak in errands when you can; For instance, on your way back from work.
- Outsource tasks like cleaning and laundry if and when you can.
- Always prepare for the next day the night before, because believe me when I say that you’ll be more tired in the morning. So make your mornings run smoothly by being prepared.
- I read somewhere that if your job is the major factor in your work-life offbalance, then it should be reconsidered. That’s a thought to keep in mind, but not without prior preparation.
- Ideally, the responsibility of running the home should fall on both parents. So you don’t have to do everything.
- Ultimately, find that balance that makes you kvell in a job well done, both at work and at home.
It may or may not be a normal lifestyle for some, but I’m loving every second of it and I’m so glad everything is falling into my laps just at the appropriate moments and in the right chunks.
Now, I’m about to take a shower and hit the hay soon because I have some reading to do later tonight, in preparation for an upcoming exam. But before I do, how do you combine your work life with motherhood and other parts of your life? Sharing is caring!
XOXO,
Yours Truly
