The Moat That Has Kept My Family And I At Bay, One Day At A Time

by Nikimandi_Admin

Hey Lovelies,

If you were asked to rate your family-time experiences on a scale of 1-10 (with one being the least and ten being the most), what would it be?

Have you allowed the Covid-19 pandemic to engulf you in panic attacks that you forget to appreciate little precious moments or acknowledge your kids’ presence?

Or

Have you chosen to create indelible memories that will be treasured forever when we reminisce about this period in future?

Remember that this phase will be over soon hopefully, so don’t despair! Some moms are scared of the fatigue factor but psychologists believe that lock downs can actually strengthen family bonds. I want to share a list of boredom busters with you to enable you keep your sanity intact in the wake of all these. A couple of mom friends reached out to me and in addition to mine, we came up with these amazing ideas. Feel free to add to this list and keep me informed on what you intend to do or have done with your kids;

·        This is a great time to engage your kids in the word of God

·        Create scavenger hunt opportunities on just anything

·        Give the dog a bath

·        Wash the car

·        Hang the laundry on the wash line

·        Have mini backyard picnics

·        Art and craft

·        Read! Read! Read!

·        Play board games

·        Jump ropes

·        Game time

·        Hopscotch

·        Family game/movie night

·        Dress up contest

·        Story time

·        Truth or Dare

·        Watch home movies

·        Take the dog for a walk or jog around the compound

·        Tic-tac-toe

·        Make homemade delicacies together

·        Play, ‘I spy’

·        Fix Puzzles

·        Swimming in the pool

·        Hide and seek

·        Paper Mache

·        Obstacle course

·        Kidz bop yoga class

·        Writing challenge

·        Time capsules

·        Dance! Dance! Dance!

Do what works for you and be flexible. Don’t forget to incorporate school related activities and home work for a couple of hours too. Personally, I think there is a need for your schedule to include outdoor time with the kids. By outdoor, I am referring to outside the house, but still within the confines of your compound or your veranda/balcony, if there are cotenants.

Don’t forget- The days may be long but the years are short. So make your home a fun zone for your kids. Instead of saving all the fun for just birthdays and holiday periods, look for reasons to add a dash of fun in an otherwise ordinary day. It’s the memories that matter eventually.

Let’s all try our best to do our part towards combating the spread of this virus. I am doing mine and I hope you are too. Stay safe lovelies!

XOXO

Yours Truly.
