Hypothetically, it’s that time of the year when the possibility of kids coming down with a flu or cold is higher due to the weather taking its toll and all. In all my years of being a mum, I can say that one of the most awful thing is having sick kids. Many illnesses spread through germs and knowing this, I try to use some preventive measures as much as I can. Most times, they work but occasionally, they don’t. Stay put as I share some of my theories with you.
I’m actually feeling myself- like the professional mum that I think I am or hope to be one day. LOL! Just wait till you read the whole post and then you will be in a better position to decide if I’m as professional as I choose to think.
Being that mum who usually falls sick mentally if not physically when her kids do, it’s not an easy experience for me when dealing with sick kids, as you may have gleaned from one of my previous posts, ‘An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away.’
Picture this,
‘Child A rarely falls sick and loves his playtime but he is not as brilliant as Child B, who is not lucky enough to enjoy perfect health all year round.’
Yet in both scenarios, you still find people say, ‘How lucky you are!’
Such is life!…
We can never have it all. The rule is to be grateful with the much or little privileges we enjoy and learn not to take things for granted because it is actually grace that has made all things possible.
So to the business of the day (or of this post), here are my 7 proven ideas that work most of the time to keep both kids and parents healthy. This could come as a subtle reminder or not, either way, I wish you luck!
· Plan: Even though no one wishes to have a sick child, we still need to make plans for the ‘What ifs’. Proper planning will require stocking up your first aid kit in case of emergency. Believe me, you never know with kids.
· Water intake: Drink lots of water to keep your kids hydrated.
· Hand washing: I choose to call this a DIY measure because it costs you almost nothing to wash and sanitize or disinfect your hands which are the one of the major receptors of germs.
· Vaccination: This also comes highly recommended because it is almost a 90 to 99% insurance rate for most illnesses.
· Good nutrition and supplements: These go a long way and can never be over emphasized. Fruits and veggies, healthy snack and natural fruit juices are a necessity because they boost immunity. I will write more about my personal experience with this on a future post.
· Sleep: Remember that all work and no rest make Jack a sick child. So sleep and rest are very important parts of a child’s development.
· Prayers: Despite the fact that prayers should be topmost, never forget that God will only help those who help themselves. So always ask for God’s protection and the grace of good health.
I understand how difficult it is to care for sick kids and I hope you all have a healthy and sick free season. Still, you need to prepared and ready to fight when illness comes knocking.
Cheers to a healthier family!
XOXO,
Yours Truly.
