She Lived In Denial Until It Was Too Late.- Part 1

by Nikimandi_Admin

A popular philosopher once said, ‘People who live in denial will paint a picture of themselves as being innocent and ignorant in all aspects. They will be offended by the truth. But what is done in the dark, will come to light. Time has a way of showing people’s true colors.’

The choice is yours to make and yours alone!

I was contacted by this lady, we will call her ‘Mrs X’. She happens to be a single parent and she found out during the lockdown period that her step sister who lived with them has been abusing her kids! They lived in fear of what will happen if they told their mother about her maltreatment, so they said nothing. She only got to find out recently, but this was after some damage had been done. Her first daughter, who was only 12, had already been exposed to substance abuse at such an early age. The lady in question had almost succeeded in marring these kids’ psychological well-being.

As we discussed further, I discovered that she actually saw the signs, but felt that since the girl was a part of her immediate family, no harm would be done to her kids. Unfortunately, she thought wrong because this girl had given some illegal drug samples (Tramadol hydrochloride-sold under the brand name Ultram) to her kids to taste. No one even knows for how long or how frequently this has been happening.

In Mrs X’s words, she said,

I saw the signs but I chose to live in denial. When I noticed the blood in her urine, I thought she was going through menarche (onset of menstruation) but then she started complaining of difficulty in urination and chest pains too. That was when I decided to get her tested. Who would have thought?

She also attested to the fact that she haven’t been there for the kids as she should have. Even amidst the lockdown period, she had been more busy engrossed in her weight loss journey and the deflation of her business due to the pandemic, to even be bothered about her kids wellbeing. She completely entrusted them in her step sister’s care.

This is so sad indeed.

The case has been reported to the Office of The Minister for Women Affairs and Gender Development in the state where she resides and hopefully, justice will be served soon. As for the step sister, the last time I spoke with this lady, some measures had already been put into place to send her to a rehabilitation center because she had started to experience some withdrawal symptoms.

I know that there has been a lot of conspiracy theories going on since the avowal of this pandemic hit us hard, but the most important thing of all is making the right choice amidst all the incertitude. What difference have you made in your homes and families? Are you making things better or worse through your actions –knowingly or unknowingly?

In my next post, I will share some of the methods you may want to adopt in order to create a stronger bond with your family and identify when things start to go awry.

We can only do our own part and leave the rest to God.

XOXO,

Yours Truly,
