Everyone: Chinwe, you haven’t been active on your blog for a while now. No recent posts, no updates. What has been up with you?
Yours Truly: SAY NO MOREEEE !!!
Hey Niki Menages,
Who can rate my disappearing act?
A colleague of mine met me some days ago, she commented on a dance reel I made with a caption on having my site up and running once again. She said that dance made her understand just how much this meant to me.
Now, let’s go on a trip down memory lane…
I’m a documenter, who loves to keep journals about motherhood and memories I remember fondly. And this is the perfect platform to share some of these. That way, I’m able to give out tips and advice and also receive same from my ever-committed readers. It’s pretty incredible and I must say that blogging is one of the few things that I’ve ‘happily’ stuck with for this long.
A few years ago, I was tired of wasting my extra hours trying to figure out what the heck I should be doing. In addition to my 9 to 5, I wanted a business that was fulfilling and fun, which also meant something to people too. I wanted to make a difference. I was already writing, yes, but I wanted more.
Then, I found it.
Or should I talk about the real connections I’ve had with some people through this blog? I’ve been quite fortunate to have virtually met a few nice folks through this medium, and even more blessed to have met some of them in person over the years. Go figure!
It’s also a hands-off income generator for me. That’s why I didn’t hesitate to employ the services of an amazing tech guru to have a new site designed, when I noticed the previous one had some real issues and was on the verge of crashing.
So, you see why regardless of what life throws my way, or how many breaks I take, I will always come back to blogging, sooner or later.
Back to the present
In retrospect, I’m grateful for going on this unplanned ‘sabbatical leave’ as I choose to call it, which was triggered by the issues I had with my previous site. I’m grateful because there are certain factors that I used to ignore, which actually play important roles in my life.
For one, it’s spending intentional, quality time with God because I don’t have to bother about a blog post to write and publish in my spare time, or a blog related mail to respond to. It has helped me rediscover myself in certain areas of my life. This factor is going nowhere though, because come rain or shine, I’m not giving this up for all the blogging in the world.
I had more time to relax, take more naps, journal more often, spend time with the family and pay more attention to my post graduate program. In fact, I checked off a lot of things on my vision board. I even took an online course during this period, all of which I’m thankful for.
Guess What?
Thinking back, I truly savored every moment of my absence. However, it didn’t feel like that on some occasions because I still missed blogging and my wonderful readers. Now, I’m back again. Only this time, I feel more confident that I can maintain a healthier lifestyle and not feel compelled whatsoever to post on social media on days I don’t feel like it.
Well, enough about me. As you can tell already, I’m super thrilled to be back.
Now, let’s talk about you. If you’re willing to contribute to the blog, please reach out to me. It’s part of the plan I’ve put in place for an upcoming series, and of course, all due acknowledgements will be credited to you as well.
Have you taken a break recently from what you enjoy doing because you were compelled to? How did it go for you? If not, would you consider going on a break anytime soon? Planned or unplanned?
XOXO
Yours Truly
Nikimandi.
