Have you ever felt like you’re pretty much ‘Mum Non Grata?’
Well, I hope you feel differently after reading this post.
I stumbled upon this boffola recently…
’Child: Mum, why are computers so smart?
Mum: It’s because they listen to their MOTHERboards.’
That’s how amazing mothers are… even the computer world knows our worth!
The other day, while consoling her baby sister over her ripped teddy, I overheard Niki say to her, “Don’t worry, just give it to mummy and she will fix it for you.”
Thanks to Niki, that conversation served as a subtle reminder of the super powers every mother possesses. We are capable of almost anything we set our minds to and much more… and knowing this, a whole lot is expected from us. In fact, we can even close a ‘fixer-upper’ deal single handedly if the need arises.
Yeah, we cool like that! #winks
Personally, I think all moms get this insecure feeling of ‘I’m not doing my best’ once in a while. For instance, it’s the hardest feeling when my girls won’t let go of my hands and say, “Mum please don’t go!”, as I’m heading out of the house to keep up when duty calls.
Most times, I try my best not to ignore them, rather I spend some time to explain to them the reason why I need to be where I’m supposed to be at that time and make them understand that as much as I love spending time with them, I have to keep up with other urgent matters too.
Sometimes they understand, sometimes they don’t; but I still feel the need to make them realize that mums and dads have other responsibilities they have to keep up with besides being a mum or dad.
I felt this was necessary in order to curb scenarios like what happened the other day. I was chatting with my girls about the profession they would like to pursue in future and my Steph said she wanted to be a mum when she grows up #insert surprise emoji.
Her teachers are in for it because I’m so close to making a mum costume for her ‘End of Session Production’. LOL!
Why on earth would that little angel even think that being a mum is a profession? #RTFLOL!
Occasionally, when I get back from work, I try to leave my phone in the car to make that intentional effort to connect face to face with the girls and then continue my homework much later. They enjoy these moments where they get to share their day with me and assist me around the house. This makes me fulfilled and reminds me of what’s really important.
Motherhood can be difficult so I always try my best to pay attention to detail here and there because you never know what you may miss- habits that may need to be shunned by the kids on time or even milestones they have attained -not that you can always help it anyway. For instance, few weeks ago, my help told me of how my Michelle used the potty independently for the first time that day and I was so elated because this was one potty training battle we have been dealing with for months.
I knew better than to feel guilty that it happened in my absence, after all, those aren’t all the nitty-gritty of raising kids, are they?
I love being a mum because it’s a blessing and gift so precious that I don’t even think I qualify sometimes, but God in His infinite mercy deemed it fit, so here I am!
What do you love most about being a mum? Please share and thanks for stopping by the blog today. Kudos to every mum out there. We may not be doing a perfect job but we are definitely doing our best. Hang on because the best is yet to come. Trust me!
XOXO,
Yours Truly.
