Take That Energy Booster-Go Figure!

by Nikimandi_Admin

Hey Lovelies,

It’s been over 8 years since I got my first email from BabyCenter telling me how my baby was now the size of a bean. Ok, before you judge, it was my first pregnancy and in addition to the advice I got from my mum, mum in-law, and others, I also needed all the info I could lay my hands upon for myself. I have definitely learnt lots of lessons along the way by now, become more confident and yeah- I’m no longer on the receiving end of these mails.

But guess what?

*talking in whispers* I still don’t have all the answers; hence the reason for this post.

These past few months of the pandemic have been anything but easy for me as a mum. I had always thought that mum life would get easier as the kids grew older, what with routines like diaper changes and potty training done and dusted years ago.

Looking at the optimistic side, I can say that the kids, especially the older ones have certainly become more independent- Yay!!!!

There’s no disputing that fact. But then you would think that I’m supposed to be getting my groove on yeah? That’s not a yardstick because on most days, I still feel like I’m barely keeping my head above water.

Just barely!

If you have a Catastrothree (a 3 year old or younger) in the house, you’ll understand what I mean.

I’ve come to realize that no matter the change that takes place over the years, some things may be easier than they used to be, while some others will still be somewhat hard.

It gets better

but it’s little by little.

The mental, physical, emotional workloads that are associated with motherhood don’t get tossed out of the window just like that.

It simply evolves…

Here’s how;

I may no longer wake up to dream feed a baby but I still wake up to analyze certain decisions I make.

I may no longer be concerned about putting a child down for a nap but I’m now more concerned about the amount of screen time which may be interfering with their naps.

So you see the evolution I was referring to and I’m pretty sure all mums can resonate with this.

At the end of the day, it’s time to take a shower, talk to my creator, meditate and hit the hay because the cycle is about to continue, but with a different twist.

Although… if you know me well enough, you may have guessed right. Yes, I still have to do some light reading in order to hit the hay.

I would have changed that if I could but, well… it is what it is and no one is complaining anyway. *inserts shrug emoji*

Do you have a similar or dissimilar story to share? Let’s hook up in the comment section because this parenting thing is still hard ASF and even with over 7 years in the parenting game and three kids down the line, most times I’m just winging it.

In all this, I want my girls to grow up knowing how much love there is in every breath and sweat of mine and that even the grandest of mums don’t have all the solutions, neither do we know it all. We learn every day. I know I do.

XOXO

Yours Truly

Nikimandi.
